UK Boarding Schools with Cricket for Indian Families

For parents in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad and beyond who want a world-class academic education alongside serious cricket development.

What families in India need to know

Academic fit

Most Indian applicants join us from CBSE, ICSE or IB schools. UK schools read these curricula well; strong maths and science marks travel particularly favourably, and we translate reports and grading scales into the format UK admissions teams expect.

Cricket background

We work with players coming through district and state age-group cricket, academy programmes and school teams. Video of genuine match play — not net footage — is what UK coaches want to see.

Timing your application

The Indian academic year ends in March or April, and UK schools start in early September. Families who begin conversations 12–18 months ahead get the widest choice of schools and awards.

Travel and access

Direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai serve Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester, all within easy reach of the schools we work with.

Boys and girls, 11 to 18

Criced works with sons and daughters alike. Girls' cricket in UK independent schools has grown faster than any other sport, with dedicated coaching, fixtures and pathways into the professional women's game.

The words UK schools use — and what they mean at home

Class 8 / Class 11
Class 8 broadly aligns with UK Year 9 (13+ entry); Class 11 aligns with Lower Sixth (16+ entry).
CBSE / ICSE marks
Percentages are read alongside school reference letters; UK schools focus on English, maths and science.
Boarding house
Not a hostel — a small pastoral community with a housemaster or housemistress, matron and tutors.

What it costs, in pounds and in local terms

UK fees are set in pounds sterling and billed each term (three terms a year). Indian rupee figures below are indicative only — your bank's rate on the day, plus transfer charges and Liberalised Remittance Scheme limits, decide the final cost.

Indicative UK boarding school costs for families in India
CostSterlingIndicative local
Full boarding, per term£13,000 – £19,000approx. ₹14.5 – ₹21 lakh
Full boarding, per year£39,000 – £57,000approx. ₹43 – ₹63 lakh
UK guardianship, per year£1,500 – £3,500approx. ₹1.7 – ₹3.9 lakh
Flights, insurance, uniform, per year£3,000 – £5,000approx. ₹3.3 – ₹5.5 lakh

Sport, all-rounder and academic awards typically reduce fees by 10–50%, and means-tested bursaries can go further. Under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme a resident individual may remit up to USD 250,000 per financial year, so most families remit under one or both parents. Tuition remitted for education attracts a lower TCS rate than general remittances — confirm the current rate with your bank or CA.

Visa and UK guardianship for Indian families

  • Your child needs a Child Student visa. The school acts as sponsor and issues a CAS once the place is confirmed and the deposit paid.
  • You will need financial evidence, a TB test certificate from an IOM-approved clinic in India, translated birth certificate and parental consent.
  • Biometrics are given at a VFS Global centre — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and others.
  • UK schools require a UK-based guardian for every overseas boarder under 18, covering exeat weekends, half terms and emergencies. Choose an AEGIS-accredited guardianship organisation.
  • Criced walks you through the CAS, documentation and guardian selection at no extra cost.

Questions from Indian families

Can an Indian student get a cricket scholarship in a UK school?

Yes. UK independent schools award sport, all-rounder and academic scholarships, often combined with means-tested support. Awards usually cover a percentage of fees and always require academic suitability alongside playing ability.

Will my child adapt from CBSE or ICSE to GCSE and A Level?

Most do, and quickly. GCSE and A Level are narrower and more analytical than CBSE or ICSE. Schools assess English and maths at entry and provide EAL support where it helps.

How much does a UK boarding school cost from India?

Budget roughly £13,000–£19,000 per term for full boarding, plus guardianship, flights, insurance and uniform. Scholarships and bursaries can reduce this meaningfully for the right pupil.
