UK Education. Cricket. Your Child’s Future.

Choosing a UK independent or boarding school is a major decision. CRICED helps families in Sri Lanka understand their options and identify schools that fit their child’s academic ambitions, cricket development, personality and family requirements.

We do not hand out the same generic list of schools to every family. Each conversation starts with your child — and the shortlist follows from that.

Fees & scholarships

What It Costs — and How to Get Support

Typical annual costs vary by school, but boarding at leading UK independent schools can commonly be £30,000–£50,000+ per year including boarding. Day places cost less, and schools also charge extras such as registration and deposit fees, trips and guardianship.

For families in Sri Lanka, that is broadly LKR 10 million to LKR 20 million a year at current exchange rates, plus flights, guardianship and one-off registration and deposit fees. We work through indicative totals in rupees before you shortlist.

Scholarships

Many schools award academic, sport, music or all-rounder scholarships. For cricket, these are usually assessed by video, references and performance records from Sri Lanka. We flag which of your shortlisted schools offer them and what they typically cover.

Entry support

We guide you through registration, UKiset or school entrance assessments, online interviews, offers, acceptance deposits, CAS for the Child Student visa, and setting up a UK-based guardian for boarders under 18.

From Sri Lankan Schools to a UK Boarding School

Pupils from Colombo, Kandy, Galle and Jaffna move into UK independent schools every year. Whether your child follows Cambridge/Edexcel O Level or the local curriculum, the transition is well understood by UK admissions teams.

O Level, local curriculum & UK entry points

O Levels map closely to GCSEs, and the local curriculum also transfers well into the British system. Most Sri Lankan pupils join at Year 9 (13+) or Sixth Form (16+) for A Levels or the IB.

  • Year 7 (11+) for an early British start
  • Year 9 (13+) before GCSEs
  • Sixth Form (16+) for A Levels or IB

Cricket pathways from Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan school cricket is competitive and technically strong. UK independent schools add winter indoor programmes, weekly fixtures and structured strength-and-conditioning — a natural next step for talented players.

  • Indoor net facilities through the UK winter
  • Regular school and club fixtures
  • Links to county age-group cricket

UKiset, entrance tests & interviews

Most senior UK schools require an assessment in English and Mathematics, and many use UKiset. Interviews are conducted online, so families in Sri Lanka can complete the process without travelling to the UK first.

  • Online UKiset or school-specific tests
  • English, maths and reasoning focus
  • Virtual interviews from Sri Lanka

Fees, Scholarships & Travel from Sri Lanka

We help Sri Lankan families plan the full financial picture in rupees, and identify where scholarships can reduce the cost.

Total cost in Sri Lankan Rupees

Boarding fees of £25,000–£50,000+ convert to roughly LKR 10 million–LKR 20 million a year at current rates. Add registration fees, deposits, flights, guardianship, uniform and school trip costs to the total.

Scholarships & bursaries

Schools offer academic, cricket, music and all-rounder awards. Cricket scholarships are normally assessed by video footage, school or club references, and a playing record from Sri Lanka.

  • Usually a percentage reduction in fees
  • Video and references are important
  • Each school has its own budget and criteria

Visa, guardian & travel from Sri Lanka

Once a place is confirmed, the school issues a CAS for a Child Student visa. Boarders under 18 need a UK-based guardian, and direct flights from Colombo to Heathrow are the most common route.

  • Child Student visa with CAS from the school
  • UK guardian required for under-18 boarders
  • Heathrow is the main arrival airport

What families say
